I was given photos by one of my editors Craig Ostroff. I noticed the color of the photos and the uniforms was a bit tacky because of the studio’s florescent lighting. So what did I do and what should any multimedia journalist do in that situation?

Change the photos to gray scale. Sure you’re taking away the color but your adding some class. It seems a bit more interesting, even foreign to younger viewers because the black and white seems more artsy.

It may become obvious about halfway through the video that I have been watching “24.” Enjoy and you will see what I mean.

I was given this project because Montgomery Media would like find more advertisers for web. In order to do this, we must get the hits.

So to make “Age has no Season” a “bigger deal” on web, I made a trailer for the video that will be posted later in June.

The Indian Valley Soap Box Association held its annual Soap Box Derby June 6 on Main Street in Souderton.

I must say that I am a little disappointed with the outcome of this video. It took me between one and two hours to put all of the videos the “stacked” formation that is the highlight of this video.

I had a friend come along and use her video camera while I used my canon. Only problem was that we then could not get her footage to convert to a .mov, thus making the footage unreadable on Final Cut and my Mac Pro.

So a little disappointed but the soap box derby was still highlighted via web. At least I got the chance to try a few new tricks. These will come in quite handy in the future.

I edited this video in final cut pro and recorded the voices-overs in Logic. Looking back about a week later, I can see that there are some audio fades that I could have payed a little more attention to.

For now on, MUST WEAR HEADPHONES while editing final product.

It’s interesting to hear those who do not work in the journalism industry say that the newspaper industry will always be around. I think we can all agree with the fact that indeed, some form of a newspaper will always be around. So Instead of providing a long theory as to what I think the industry will become (web first, paper second), I will instead use this post to talk about why the industry will always be around.

I cannot think of one successful person who doesn’t read a newspaper in some form. On a SEPTA train or really any form of public transportation, how many people on the ride are reading the newspaper? Well at least during peak hours, most people are.

Whether its on a mobile device like an iPhone, iTouch or BlackBerry, a laptop or the old-fashioned way, with real ink and paper, these people, with regular jobs, regular pay, and for the most part, what may be seen as a successful way of living, are all reading the paper in some form.

These are people who understand that to be someone in the world, you must first know the world you are going to play a role in. In my view, the more newspapers one reads, the more likely that person is to understand our world and transcend the thought process of the average Joe. You are more likely to be “special.”

Creative ideas may come to mind quicker. One may read a line in the paper and think of ways to apply an idea to his or her job. Instantly that person goes to work in the mind and comes up with a mental blue print of how the idea can be applied in a situation (work, family, hobbies).

It all comes from the newspaper. So today when my great-uncle Richard said, “oh, I think newspapers will always be around,” whether he realizes it or not, when he sits down and reads the paper, he understands the importance of the information the pallet of ink provides him every morning. It puts him above those who do not take a few moments each day to educate themselves on what is happening in the world.

In a world of evolution and innovation, the younger crowds will eventually need to come to this realization too. Through the internet, they will.

Ever since I visited Maple Acre Farm for this story, I’ve made the farms produce, dairy and meat products a big part of my diet. There milk is from Merrymead farms which is also in Montgomery County and there steaks are the best I’ve ever had. If anyone lives near a farm, make sure that you try their produce or any other product that they produce. I bet everything there will taste better than what comes from a supermarket.

Mr. Ryan Thomas, a 4th grade classroom teacher at Fort Washington Elementary, needed to find away to teach geometry to his class while showing them how to use the subject in real-life situations. Mr. Thomas decided the best way for his class to use geometry first-hand would be to build the entire set for the schools upcoming play, “Aladdin.”

Ron Curtis spent some time behind bars at a young age. When he came out, one of his goals was to find a way to keep other youth members of Montgomery County from making the mistakes that he had. What came of that goal was Ball-aholics. Thanks to Curtis, over 300 young basketball players between the age of 7 and 26 spend their Sundays at Pen Ambler Park playing the game and learning lessons from the role-models the league has provided to them.
